Oakham: new wellbeing and support group set up by local charity Dove Cottage

A local charity have set up a new Wellbeing and Support group open to Rutland Residents dealing with life-limiting illness.

Dove Cottage, Rutland are a registered charity who offer high quality palliative day care to people in North East Leicestershire, Rutland and South East Nottinghamshire. These services are available to people who are living with a life-limiting illness, such as cancer, motor neurone disease and COPD.

As a charity, Dove Cottage offer their care services free of charge. The hospice provides nursing care and advice, wellbeing activities such as complementary therapies, chaplaincy support, games, crafts, refreshments and a home-cooked lunch. Our guests come to the hospice to be cared for in a home from home atmosphere, usually for one day a week. We also have a range of support services such as Dementia and Family Support Groups as well as bereavement support.

As well as their home visits and telephone support, Dove Cottage are delighted to announce that they have just launched a new Wellbeing and Support Group in Rutland at Empingham Cricket Club, which will run monthly on a Tuesday from 11am until 2pm.

This is a new group for Rutland residents living with life-limiting illnesses (and their carers) and offers friendship, nursing advice, carer support, complementary therapies, a light lunch and refreshments. It's a great opportunity for people to gain support and spend a nice few hours with others in a similar situation.

Their first meeting was on the 3rd of March will run on one Tuesday of each month going forwards. The date of each meeting will be uploaded to the Dove Cottage website.

A guest of the first meeting said: "It is a place to go where people understand my problems and limitations and I feel comfortable there."

While another added: "It's nice to be able to get out of my home and socialise with others who understand me, and I feel safe. It also helps keep my brain active."
