An 'aggressive' man came close to feeling the electricity from a police taser gun in Oakham today (Monday).

Officers were called to William Dalby Walk, shortly after 9am where the 31-year suspect "became aggressive towards officers."

They were called to the scene as the man had breached a protection from harassment order.

Police said the man was 'red-dotted' with a taser, meaning the taser had been taken out of its holster and pointed at him, with a red dot showing on his body.

It is a couple of stages before the taser is fired and an offender receives the voltage.

In a statement, Leicestershire and Rutland Police further told Oakham Nub News: "No one was injured during the incident. The arrested man has since been released from custody."

Earlier the police officer who tweeted about the incident commented: "For the first time I've had to draw and red dot someone with my taser.

"It's something I was hoping I'd never actually need to do. I'm glad I did it. The situation de-escalated quickly."
