Oakham School pupils are celebrating receiving their GCSE results yesterday, 24 August 2023.

Overall, a third of grades were 9-8 – equivalent to A*. Despite a widely reported reduction in top grades awarded this year nationally, this achievement represents an improvement on Oakham School's pre-pandemic results. Over two-thirds of grades awarded were 9-6 – equivalent to A*-B.

Four pupils managed the remarkable achievement of 10 or more grade 9 awards. Meanwhile, 33 pupils achieved entirely 9-7 grades – equivalent to A*-A.

Speaking about today's results, Dr Leo Dudin, Deputy Head Academic, commented: "We are very proud of our 2023 GCSE candidates for achieving a strong set of results.

"This group has done incredibly well to bounce back from the setbacks they have all experienced in their studies, which have been heavily disrupted by national lockdowns and pandemic restrictions, emerging as well-rounded young learners.

"Of particular note, our most gifted mathematicians sat the Algebra Award and the Further Mathematics certificate this summer, on top of their GCSE. We are delighted for the nine pupils who achieved top grades in all three of these exams - a clean sweep!

"We are committed to ensuring that our pupils flourish during their time at Oakham and beyond and, as such, we are excited to be launching our Connected Curriculum this September. This evolution will ensure more time for pupils to focus on their academic studies whilst also dedicating time to learning outside of the classroom, through our pastoral learning programme and wide co-curricular offering."

Headmaster Henry Price added: "I would like to congratulate all the Oakhamians who have received their GCSE results today.

"As ever, there are some outstanding results, with pupils attaining the highest grades across the full range of subjects. These notable achievements go hand-in-hand with those pupils who have shown equal perseverance in attaining good grades in areas they find more challenging, with the support of their teachers, tutors and many others.

"I look forward to seeing everyone back in just over a week, raring to go and excited to start their A-level, IB Diploma or BTEC courses, and I also send my best wishes to those pupils and families who are moving on from Oakham.

"Above all, I would urge any pupil about to start Year 12 - not just those at Oakham School - to make the most of all the opportunities of their Sixth Form experience. At Oakham, we certainly see the Upper School (Sixth Form) as the perfect environment to continue maturing and growing in confidence academically and socially with a careful balance of independence and support paving the way to life beyond school."

Congratulations to all local students in receiving their results and for working so hard.
