Plans to resurface Cold Overton Road this week have been pushed back until February due to the delays in the reopening of Brooke Road.

Brooke Road in Oakham, which was originally planned to reopen on 11th October, has had its reopening delayed until 30th November.

Due to Cold Overton Road being part of the main diversion route for the Brooke Road closure, the resurfacing works have been delayed by Rutland County Council until February 2025.

The state of the road surface around Oakham has come under criticism from its residents, with one commenting on Facebook when the council announced it would be installing electric-vehicle charging points, saying: "might I suggest you install some road in the many cavernous potholes first?"

Similarly, another commented: "I'd much rather the money was spent fixing the roads."

The state of the roads in Oakham has been a point of tension with local people as the closure of Brooke Road has caused chaos in the town centre, especially around rush hour.

The council are expected to announce the new date for the resurfacing of Cold Overton Road next week.
