This weekend, Saturday 11 February, The Mighty Oaks saw the end of their winning streak against Long Buckby away.

Following three consecutive wins, Oakham RFC had a tough game in Northampton this weekend, suffering a substantial loss against Long Buckby.

There have been a series of injuries in the New Year, with some regular first team players out of the line up with breaks, sprains, head injuries and a season-ending knee injury for James Easson.

Nonetheless, the first team have had a cracking three weeks. Unfortunately, this came to an end at Long Buckby on Saturday, the team suffering from a long drive, adverse weather conditions, and last minute drop outs that left Oakham on the back foot.

With dropouts, the final lineup was:

Backs

15 - George Bland

14 - Ben Morton

13 - Kris Borthwick

12 - Johno Milnes - VC

11 - Henry Bird

10 - Callum Crellin

9 - Matthew Lammin

Forwards

1 - Lewis Crellin

2 - Merton Stimpson

3 - Pete Rawlinson

4 - Philip Gant

5 - Sam Weatherall

6 - Josh Tooley

7 - Herbie Gough

8 - Conor Stewart

Bench

16 - Reuben Styles

17 - Connor Reid, in his first game back since a concussion in the Wellingborough away game last month.

Travelling Reserve was AJ.

The First half saw Oakham playing uphill - a fight from which they could not recover - and the mid time score was 28 - 0.

Following two injuries in the first half, Reuben and Connor joined the fray and performed admirably.

The second half saw AJ jump in with 15 minutes of game time remaining and, in his first team debut, he put on a good show. Unfortunately though, there was no movie-moment comeback, and Oakham finished without scoring a try, putting them back in 9th place in the league table after being bumped up to 8th last weekend.

Despite the loss, it was great to see Connor Reid back in action and team spirit remain high.

At the final whistle, the score was 38 - 0 to Long Buckby, who celebrated their win in a sporting fashion, inviting the Oakham lads to join them for a well earned beer and post-match food in their clubhouse.

Next week's game will see Oakham play Stamford away, and a good turnout is expected.

The game will begin at 2:15pm and will take place at Stamford Rugby Club:

Hambleton Rd

Stamford
