Oakham: Rutland 7-day case rate reverses national trend as numbers fall further
Eleven recorded Covid-19 cases in Rutland today has prompted a further drop in the county's 7-day infection rate- pushing it further back below the national average.
The 11 positive tests compares with 10 yesterday and 10 last Tuesday.
The current Rutland 7-day case rate is now 259.4 cases per 100,000 of population, compared with 281.6 cases yesterday, 288 last Tuesday and a recent peak of 313.1 last Wednesday, since when it has declined daily.
England's smallest county also continues to record no fatalities, after last weekend saw its first death since April.
Rutland has now recorded 2386 cases recorded since the start of the pandemic- about one case for every 18 residents. This compares with the England average of about one-in-11.
The number of deaths is now 66, about one for every 600 residents, which compares with the national average of one-in-500 residents.
Prior to the latest fatality about ten days ago, the last recorded such death in England's smallest county was on Wednesday April 28. Before that it was Thursday March 25.
Meanwhile, in Lincolnshire, South Kesteven has recorded 76 cases of Covid-19 today, almost double the 43 of yesterday.
The number has further increased the district's 7-day infection rate to its highest in 2 weeks, and now making it higher than the England average.
Today's 76 cases also compares with 63 on Monday and 138 over the weekend.
It also compares with last Tuesday's 41 positive tests and 35 the Tuesday before.
The 7-day rate for South Kesteven is now 294.6 cases per 100,000, compared with 277.2 yesterday, 227.5 last Tuesday and 271.7 the Tuesday before.
This compares with the England average of 291.9, which has crept up from 286.9 yesterday, 283.9 on Sunday and a low of 282.1 on Friday.
The figures come amid much testing, currently running around 725,000 a day or 5.3 million over a week.
Overall, there have been 9960 cases in South Kesteven since the start of the pandemic- equivalent to about one for about 15 residents in the district, which compares to the England average of one-in-11.
The number of fatalities stands at 272, after increasing one on Tuesday, which followed on from a further fatality last weekend.
Prior to those cases, the only other recent cases of people dying with Covid in South Kesteven were on May 5 and March 25.
This means the district has recorded 4 deaths in just over 4 months.
Overall, across Greater Lincolnshire, there have been 475 cases of coronavirus confirmed today, as 75% of the UK adult population is now double-jabbed.
The government's COVID-19 dashboard on Monday reported 294 new cases in Lincolnshire, 96 in North East Lincolnshire and 85 in North Lincolnshire.
The total 475 figure is 20% higher than last Tuesday's 396 cases.
Government figures showed one further death in its data, however, this included two new reports in Lincolnshire, but one removed from the North East Lincolnshire data. NHS figures reported no further deaths on Tuesday.
Nationally, cases increased by 23,510 to 6,117,540 while deaths rose by 146 to a total of 130,503 on Tuesday—- the highest daily deaths since March.
Nationally, it was confirmed today that 75% of UK adults have now received two COVID jabs, the government has officially confirmed.
A total of 39,688,566 people have now received both doses, while more than 47 million people have received a first dose, according to the latest figures.
Local figures are released on Thursdays, but as of last week's data, 88% of people had received their first jab and 74% their second in Lincolnshire.
However, one-in-four people under the age of 30 had still not had their first dose.
