Uppingham School has congratulated its Upper Fifth pupils on their outstanding GCSE results.

Despite much of their time at Uppingham being disrupted by the impact of COVID-19, the schools says they have faced these challenges head on.

The school posted on social media: "Our pupils have shown admirable rigour, fortitude, and optimism, and we are proud of what they have achieved today."

Two thirds of grades awarded were 9-8 and 85% were 9-7 grades.

Grades were awarded as part of a rigorous process, based on pupils' performance in assessments taken in the Summer Term and incorporating coursework where applicable. The awarding bodies' external quality assurance process sampled our grades and validated them without challenge.

Dr Richard Maloney, Headmaster of Uppingham School, said: "Our Upper Fifth pupils are to be commended on these outstanding and merited results; a culmination of their hard work, determination and enthusiasm, as well as the unstinting support of their teachers and the wider school community.

"As they look to the future, they can advance into their Sixth Form years with confidence."
