Following a dramatic online leak that Oakham Town Council petty cash is missing, at an Oakham Town Council meeting last night, Thursday 22 December, Oakham Town Council have opted to report the Councillor who approached the Police about the loss of public funds.

The Councillor, who remains unnamed, allegedly reported the loss of funds to the Police following an online leak, exposed by former Councillor Martin Brookes.

Read more about that leak here.

Cllr David Romney suggested taking this action against the Councillor who reported the loss to the Police, quoting a standing order that prevents members of the Council from acting "unilaterally" when it comes to making decisions regarding Council business.

We have received comment from Martin Brookes, who originally exposed the leak: "Why is it whenever something is wrong at Oakham Town Council why do we need leaks rather than the council being open and transparent? Why when important questions asked are people accused of bullying?

"It concerns me that public money has gone missing and the council appears to only want to investigate, once a leak has sprung. This makes me question the credibility of our local councillors who may have known about this loss."
