Oakham Town Councillor Linda Chatfield resigns to prioritise work at Rutland Council
Linda Chatfield, who was elected to Rutland County Council in November 2024, has announced her resignation from Oakham Town Council.
Rutland County Councillors have recently seen a significant increase in work and pressure from budget cuts and potential devolution plans.
In a statement to Oakham Town Council, Cllr Chatfield said: "At the moment the workload for Rutland County Council has increased considerably. In late November, the government informed us that the rural services grant was being withdrawn which meant a hole in the budget of about 14% - plus there have been the devolution plans, again issued by the government in late 2024.
"There have, and are going to be, many meetings and briefings in the coming year and probably beyond. [...] It isn't really fair that I cannot give my whole attention to Oakham Town Council."
Linda Chatfield announced her resignation officially to the Town Council on Monday, offering her apologies but saying her work at Rutland Council has become too much to be able to maintain both.
