Oakham woman takes spotlight in inspirational catwalk show by Breast Cancer Now

Ami Yeasmin, age 65 from Oakham, joined 22 other models on the catwalk for The Show by Breast Cancer Now – a powerful event celebrating the strength and stories of individuals affected by breast cancer.
The catwalk, which was held in London on 15th May, including 21 women and 2 men living with or beyond breast cancer. The event was hosted by Lisa Snowdon and styled by top celebrity stylist Rebekah Roy.
Ami was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021, when a routine mammogram found a suspicious lump in her left breast. She underwent months of chemotherapy, several rounds of radio therapy and surgery to remove her lymph nodes.

"I will never forget that day I walked past the bathroom mirror and saw my body covered in blemishes, blisters and rashes from a severe reaction to chemotherapy. I felt ashamed and then it hit me that my body was trying to save me.
"I began to practice self-compassion and as I embraced my bald head, I began to rock my new look and put on my red boots and 'danced away the blues'.
Ami made the decision to take part in The Show to celebrate all her body has done for her and mark the journey she has been on.
"While my body still bears witness to scars and wounds and side effects, I am shining bright because I have a message to share that no one, whatever their journey, should ever dim their light or shrink to fit in.

"I walked that catwalk last night in celebration of my journey, and my body and how my cancer diagnosis has only made me stronger.
"Wearing those fabulous outfits and seeing all my wonderful friends and supporters in the audience, it was a truly a night I will never forget and I'm so grateful to have been a part of it!"
