Oakham’s Admiral Hornblower reopens to show new refurbishment after fire
The Admiral Hornblower, a popular Oakham pub, has finally reopened after being forced to close in February following a fire.
The pub opened its doors yesterday, inviting the public in to see the extensive refurbishments in anticipation of the kitchen opening on Friday.
Charlotte Maulik, who runs the pub with her parents and brother, said that due to the building being listed, they did not receive the green light to start renovation until just two months ago and since then it had been a race against the clock to get it ready to reopen.
'The whole kitchen had to be completely torn out,' she said. 'And the pub and dining area were so smoke damaged, everything needed a lot of work.'
It is clear to see the hard work that has gone into the renovation, with the pub looking much brighter and up to date, with new large windows welcoming additional light to the dining room.
The private dining area, which can be rented for events, has also had a makeover. Named 'The Study,' the space has a sophisticated and secluded feel to it.
The restaurant keeps the rustic vibe of the building while also feeling bright and modern. The bar has maintained its charm, with welcoming open fires, comfortable seating and a relaxed homely feel.
It is obvious to anyone visiting that a lot of love and hard work has gone into the building and the owners are excited to invite people in to see for themselves. The kitchen will reopen Friday (13th September).
