A cornerstone in Oakham's community will be going up for auction after trustees deem the historic building is no longer financially viable.

Victoria Hall, which has been a long-standing community asset in the heart of Oakham, will be sold at a public auction in October.

This comes after Oakham Town Council stepped back from negotiations with the hall's trustees following lengthy discussions about the council moving offices into the building.

Despite discussions spanning months between trustees and the town council, the council formally votes against continuing the negotiations in July, forcing the hall's trustees to re-evaluate the building's future.

The hall will go up for public auction on 28 October with BTG Eddisons Property Auctions, with proceeds from the sale being donated directly to charities chosen by the Charity Commission.
