Oakham's branch of Wilko has not been included in the list of 52 stores set to close next week.

Administrators at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has confirmed that the discount retailer will be axing stores nationwide, with 1,300 employees set to be made redundant.

Closures will begin as early as Tuesday, with 24 stores shutting their doors.

But Oakham's Wilko was not named among the stores set to close.

However, the future of the local branch remains unclear.

Rival retailer B&M confirmed yesterday that it will spend £13 million on a further 51 Wilko branches - but none of these stores have yet been named.

And the deal still leaves 300 Wilko sites without a clear future after the company fell into administration in August.

PwC has warned: "It is possible that further store closures may regrettably be necessary."

Edward Williams, joint administrator, added: "In the absence of viable offers for the whole business, very sadly store closures and redundancies of team members from those stores are now necessary.

"The loss of these stores will be felt not only by the team members who served them with such dedication, including through the uncertainty of recent weeks, but also the communities which they have been a part of.

"We are enormously grateful for the support of team members during this difficult period and remain committed to doing all we can to help affected staff, assisting them with processing redundancy claims and working with relevant parties to help secure new employment as quickly as possible."

The full list of closures can be found here.
