The annual fundraising quiz hosted by a local hedgehog rescue duo has raised over £1,200.

Prickleback Urchin Hedgehog Rescue is a local rescue centre for hedgehogs, founded and run by married couple, Rachel and Jay.

The duo run the rescue centre from their home alongside work and family commitments, and pay for most of the treatment and care of the hedgehogs they rescue themselves and through private donations.

Last year, they hosted their first ever fundraising quiz night to help support the medical care costs for their prickly inmates.

Following a successful event in 2022, the event was even bigger and better this year, and saw competitive and social quizzers head to Rutland Showground to enjoy an evening of laughs, drinks, nibbles and good company.

As a result, they raised an impressive £1,210, which should cover 6 months' worth of medication and veterinary treatment at their local vets, Rutland Veterinary Centre.

The Prickleback Urchin Hedgehog Rescue team said: "We would like to thank everyone for making our fundraising quiz such a resounding success! We are pleased so many of you have commented or messaged to say how much you enjoyed it!

"Thank you to our quiz master Richard, our hardworking volunteers, the Showground team, as well as all of you for coming along!

"We raised a staggering £1210 which will cover (based on last year) just over half of our annual cost for medication and veterinary treatment. We are so grateful because this means we can continue with confidence for the year ahead."

On top of this, team team hosted a raffle, supporting their fundraising efforts and shining a spotlight on local creatives, brands and business who donated goods and experiences.

The team concluded: "We stood up as a county to THINK HEDGEHOG and we are so proud of our community!

"Same time next year everyone?"

If you would like to support the cause, Rachel and Jay have set up an Amazon Wishlist, where local people can send donations of food, medical supplies, and much more direct to their home.
