A police helicopter was called out to assist Leicestershire officers after a group was spotted 'acting suspiciously' in Oakham's Ashwell Road in the early hours of Sunday.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: "NPAS (National Police Air Service) were called to assist officers on the ground after some people were seen acting suspiciously in Ashwell Road just after 3am on 1 September.

"No one was traced and no criminal offences were identified."

Residents reported hearing the helicopter over the town for almost half an hour from approximately 3.40am.
