The iconic police helmets and bowler hats are being reintroduced for policing teams across Rutland and Leicestershire.

These traditional uniform items are being reintroduced as a nod to the Crown, who Police nationwide swear an oath to, and to make patrolling officers visible when they are undertaking work within local communities.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire and Rutland Police said: "In 2022, to celebrate the oath we swear to the Crown, we announced that the iconic custodian police helmet and bowler were returning to the heads of patrolling police officers in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

"This was also done as a renewed commitment to standards and to strengthen the link between the public and the police with officers being more visible in communities."
