A police operation to tackle speeding in Rutland was undertaken at the weekend (Sat 27 and Sun 28 June).

Officers from the Rutland Neighbourhood Policing area were joined by colleagues from Melton and assisted by the force's roads policing unit.

The operation covered Empingham (A606), Preston (A6003), Edith Weston, South Luffenham, Ketton, Tinwell, Caldecott, Thorpe by Water, Glaston and Wakerley (A47).

A Leicestershire Police spokesman told Oakham Nub News: "The operation was aimed at both motorcyclists and other road users and resulted in one person being issued with a fixed penalty notice for speeding and a number of other motorists being advised about the dangers of excessive speed.

"Driving at excessive speeds in rural locations is concerning for both officers and the local community and further operations of this nature will be carried out in the future."
