Oakham police are seeking the driver of an Audi A4 who drove over the foot of a police officer last night.

Shortly before 8pm yesterday (Thursday 19 November) officers stopped a car – an Audi A4 – in Lands End Way, Oakham.

Police told Nub News: "The car was stopped as it was identified there was no insurance in place for the vehicle.

"However, when officers were speaking to the driver and passenger, the car made off, running over the foot of one officer and making contact with his leg. The officer has not suffered any serious injuries."

Enquiries to locate the car are ongoing and this afternoon, Leicestershire Police said no arrests have been made at this time.

Oakham Police commented on twitter last night: "Hitting a colleague with a car because you don't want it to be recovered for not having insurance isn't acceptable in anyone's books.

"Fortunately the officer is okay. We know who you are so we will be seeing you soon."
