Further rail strikes have been confirmed following failed talks yesterday, Monday the 5th of December, between RMT and the Rail Delivery Group regarding pay and working conditions.

The RMT represents staff at Network Rail, who maintain the railways and include signallers and maintenance workers. It also represents workers at 14 train operating companies involved in strike action.

Workers at the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) will walk out from 6pm on the 24th of December until the 27th of December 2022 as the row over pay and conditions escalates.

These strikes will impact those travelling for Christmas, restaurants, bars and major events and mean that some may not be able to see their families this festive period.

Tim Shoveller, Network Rail's chief negotiator, accused the RMT of "playing fast and loose with people's Christmas plans and the new strike dates announced deliberately target vital engineering work designed to improve the railway".

As well as the strikes on the 24th to the 27th of December, industrial action at 14 train companies across four 48-hour periods will take place on:

  • 13th - 14th December
  • 16th - 17th December

Further action is set to take place in the New Year:

  • 3rd - 4th January
  • 6th - 7th January

While East Midlands Rail (EMR) services are often limited in Oakham, it is anticipated that no EMR trains will run on these days. Cross-country services will still be going ahead.
