The county council has said it is supporting residents affected by the closure of a local retirement home.

Belton House Retirement Home has been deregistered by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following two inspections in the past six months.

CQC said the Belton In Rutland home - which is run by Kross Investments Limited - has not improved despite concerns being raised about the care for residents.

Having been notified of the CQC's decision, Rutland County Council has stepped in to ensure alternative care arrangements are put in place to meet the individual needs of 13 residents living at Belton House, before the home is closed on 23 April 2023.

Kim Sorsky, strategic director for adults and health at Rutland County Council, said: "We've acted quickly following confirmation from the CQC that Belton House Retirement Home is to be deregistered.

"We are in contact with the home's residents and their families, to provide support and reassurance.

"We monitor care home capacity throughout Rutland and are confident of finding alternative placements for all affected residents."

The Littleworth Lane home was rated inadequate by CQC following an inspection last October.

"People were not supported safely. Risks to peoples' safety were not assessed or monitored effectively and were not well managed," the inspection report said.

It added: "Staff did not receive the support and guidance they needed to be effective in their roles and meet people's needs.

"The provider had not identified that staff required training around individual health needs and conditions, such as distressed behaviours and mental health.

"Staff did not always support people to access healthcare and treatment in a timely manner."

Following the report's publication last year, a spokesperson for the home said: "As a provider, we are working closely with the CQC and Rutland County Council to address concerns identified and are committed to providing safe and effective care to our residents.

"In response to concerns, we have already made significant progress working through Action Plans which support the improvement of the service.

"Investment has been made into additional external support being provided for the new, experienced manager.

"As a provider, we are not only committed to continuous improvement of high quality care and support but to our dedicated staff team."
