A group of locals who are passionate about a great pint are keen to welcome more female members, and are doing so with their new Ladies n Ale evening.

CAMRA is an independent organisation run by volunteers who promote and champion real ale, cider, and traditional British pubs and clubs.

It is considered one of the most successful consumer organisations across Europe. Founded by four real ale enthusiasts back in 1971, today they represent beer drinkers and pub-goers across the UK.

As well as celebrating local pubs, members often enjoy outings and evenings with friendly fellow beer-lovers, including a recent day trip to Lincoln, and their new evening exclusively for ladies who want to meet new people, enjoy some local nights out and enjoy supporting local businesses.

Their first ladies' night took place in August, and was a resounding success, with new members - who signed up at the Rutland CAMRA Beer Festival - joining Vice Chair, Homera, for an evening of socialising, beer and nibbles.

The evening took place at The Coach Inn in South Luffenham.

Karen, new CAMRA member and local beer lover, said: "The landlady, Emma, was incredibly knowledgeable and told us a lot about the beers. I thought I knew about beer, but I learned a lot and met some new people, which is always a pleasure. We got to test all of the beers - dark and light, a great variety - and we discussed what we thought of them.

"We were also treated to some wonderful food, and I believe most of it was made by Homera. It was a lovely evening and a great pub."

Homera, Vice Chair, added: "The second meeting of Rutland CAMRA's 'Ladies n Ales' group will be taking place this week.

"The last session was very successful and encouraged us to carry on introducing ladies to real ale. The upcoming session will be held at The Coach Inn, South Luffenham on Wednesday 25 October, from 5.30pm - 6pm and it will last for an hour. We will have snacks and talks and chats and altogether the making of a convivial evening. Anyone interested please let me know by emailing [email protected].

"It will be lovely to see as many of you as possible."
