There may yet be hope for Rutland's eco-friendly shop as the team face closure.
On Tuesday 29 August, the team from Rutland Refill announced that the shop and café would be closing.
Earlier this week, it looked like Rutland Refill - Community Interest Company at 1 Westgate would be closing its doors for good in September.
However, the community has come forward and pledged support, meaning that hope remains for the not-for-profit shop, café and deli.
The zero-waste shop opened in July 2021 and sells groceries, cleaning and health and beauty products without plastic packaging from local businesses and sellers. It also doubles up as a cafe and hosts regular workshops alongside local groups, charities and organisations.
Any profits that are not reinvested into Rutland Refill have gone back to local and environmental causes.
However, the shop has been struggling, and the team will be meeting on Friday 1 September to see if the shop can be saved.
A spokesperson for the shop said: "We have had so many people come forward offering to help keep Rutland Refill CIC going!
"Some of the directors, the founder and a few others from the local community are having a strategy meeting on Friday morning to discuss the possibility of keeping RR going but in a different management format - being run by volunteers.
"Thank you so so much for everyone's love , good wishes and support it's so appreciated.
"We will keep you posted on future developments very soon."
This comes as Wilko, next door to the independent refill shop, also gets ready to close for good.
