The New Year Honours List 2024 marks the incredible public service of individuals from across the UK, and a charity worker from Rutland has been recognised, along with other individuals nationwide who have been recognised by the King.
Recipients in the New Year Honours List have been awarded for their outstanding contributions across all parts of the UK for their work on areas including sustained public service, youth engagement, community work and more.
One of these is the founder of Dove Cottage Day Hospice, Chris Gatfield, who set up the day care centre in 1996 after volunteering in a Grantham hospice.
Dove Cottage Day Hospice provides invaluable support and care since for members of the local community suffering from a life-limiting illness, and their families. The charity has been going for 27 years, who was supported by local Lions and Rotary groups, as well as charities to open the facility.
Chris said that she was inspired by God to do so, and the rest is history.
Rutland and Melton MP, Alicia Kearns, said: "Congratulations to Chris Gatfield, who has received a very well-deserved BEM in the new year’s honours!
"Thank you Chris for all your incredible work."
While Chris has now retired from her role in the day-to-day work of the charity, she is still involved as the honorary president.
Congratulations to all who have been recognised on the New Year Honours List.
