To thank their current volunteers and find members of the local community who would like to give back, Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland is getting set to host a Volunteer Party.

Set to take place next week, the team at the local Age UK branch will be putting on a party, including tea, coffee and cake, for their staff and volunteers. They will also be welcoming anyone from the local community who has an interest in volunteering and is considering joining the cause.

Age UK Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland is an independent local charity with a national name. They work in the local community to help older people live happier, active, fulfilled and socially-engaged lives in communities around the city, county and Rutland.

They are a voluntary organisation that exists to promote the wellbeing of all older people by helping to make life fulfilling and enjoyable.

A spokesperson said: "Our main aim is to develop sufficient and relevant services that reflect the needs and wishes of older people living in the city of Leicester and counties of Leicestershire & Rutland."

As a part of this, they are recruiting volunteers to support their Befriending scheme, a community-focused venture that runs across Rutland.

As a Befriender, you will take time out of your schedule weekly, fortnightly or even monthly, to visit a member of the programme looking for friendship.

This no obligation event will allow attendees to find out more about what it takes to be a volunteer with Age UK and what they will get back in return, including events, friendships, networking opportunities and the chance to give back within the local area.

You will also have the chance to meet current staff and volunteers and to hear first hand from members of the team.

The event will take place from 1:45 - 3pm on Thursday 13 June 2024 at All Saints Church Hall, Church Lane, Oakham, LE15 6AA.

RSVP by emailing [email protected].
