The Rutland First Responders logged a 'monster' 882 hours of responding time in January, the team attending to a range of cases across the county.

The Rutland Community First Responders are volunteers who give their time freely to help save lives in their community. Responders are everyday members of the general public who are trained in the use of Automated External Defibrillators and the treatment and control of a wide range of potentially life threatening conditions.

As a part of their commendable 882 hours undertaken last month, the team attended 143 patients and spent 25 other hours volunteering and training.

The team shared: "We respond to almost anything and everything and we are a team of only 8."

Calls included:

  • Strokes
  • TIA
  • Cardiac issues
  • Seizures
  • Chest pains
  • Chest infection
  • DIB
  • Collapses
  • Abdominal pain
  • Epistaxis
  • Falls
  • Allergic reaction
  • Diabetes
  • Anxiety
  • Tachycardia
  • Sepsis
  • Vertigo

The team also "sadly" attended an end of life call.

The team described January as a "monster month", and will continue to take care of the community 24/7.
