Rutland Community Fridge accepts generous donation from local shoe shop
Rutland Community Fridge has accepted a generous donation of £2,000 from Pavers Shoes and the Pavers Foundation.*
Rutland Community Fridge is run by Root-and-Branch Out, a local food and education charity working towards supporting residents and young people across Rutland.
The project sees volunteers collect food waste from local shops, bakeries and businesses to give to the local community on a pay-as-you-feel basis.
In the three years that the project has been running, hundreds of residents have used the scheme either to help feed their families, or to prevent food waste.
The Oakham Community Fridge runs from Oakham Station on a Friday from 10 - 11:30am, and the Uppingham Fridge can be found at Uppingham Town Hall from 1:30 - 3pm on Friday.
To help support these two projects, the team relies upon support from local people, shops, supermarkets and businesses. As such, this donation from Pavers has been much appreciated by all of the organisers and volunteers involved.
A spokesperson from Rutland Community Fridge said: "We were delighted to accept a cheque of £2,000 toward Rutland Community Fridges from Bev at Pavers Shoes at Gates Garden Centre and the generous Pavers Foundation. Thank you!"
The team also celebrated a tasty milestone last month, as the team announced that the community project has helped save 25 tonnes of food from going to landfill.
Find out more, including how to support the scheme, on the Community Fridges Facebook page.
*The Pavers Foundation was launched in 2018, with an initial donation of £2.5 million from Pavers Shoes and the private estate of the late Catherine Paver, to enable charitable giving by the business and its 1700 employees. The foundation is dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the communities around us.
