Rutland community pub to reopen after huge refurbishment
By Grace Kennington 9th Oct 2026
The King's Arms in Wing is officially reopening after being closed for almost two years.
The pub will officially reopen its doors on Friday 16 October with a grand opening ceremony.
The celebrations will kick off from 5.45pm at Wing Village Hall with the taking down of the 'Save Our Pub' banner.
From there, gathered villagers will head to the King's Arms for 6pm, where High Sheriff of Rutland, Susannah Fish, will formally declare the pub open.
The pub has been closed since December 2024 and, since then, Wing residents have rallied behind efforts to secure the pub's future.
During the time the pub was closed, the village hosted pop-up pub evenings in the village hall to keep the community connected.
There is now enormous excitement about welcoming new landlord Ali Mendley and welcoming the King's Arm back into the heart of the village.
'I'm so excited to be opening the doors and welcoming everyone into the King's Arms,' said Ali. 'The support from the village has been fantastic.
'My hope is to create a welcoming pub where people can enjoy themselves, catch up with friends and feel at home.'
There will be a soft launch on Thursday 8 October before the official reopening on Friday 9 October.
