Rutland County Council release Notice of Election and deadlines

Rutland County Council (RCC) have published the Notices of Elections for the local government elections taking place in Rutland on Thursday 4 May 2023.

Rutland residents wishing to stand as a councillor you can collect a nomination form and get more information on the process by contacting Rutland County Council at [email protected] or calling 01572 722 577.

All nomination forms must be completed and returned to Rutland County Council by 4pm on Tuesday 4th April 2023.

To ensure that you are able to vote in this year's elections, make sure you are aware of the following key deadlines:

MIDNIGHT, 17TH APRIL - Register to vote

5PM, TUESDAY 18TH APRIL - Submitting new applications to vote by post and postal proxy

If you are registered to vote and would like to vote by post or postal proxy this election then you can download an application form from the Electoral Commission website or contact Rutland County Council's Election Office [email protected] / 01572 722 577 

5PM, TUESDAY 25TH APRIL - Submitting new applications to vote by proxy (not postal proxy)

If you are unable to vote in person and would like to appoint someone to vote by proxy at a polling station on your behalf you can apply on the Electoral Commission website or contact Rutland County Council's Election Office [email protected] / 01572 722 577

To vote in person at a polling station in the local election you will now need photo ID. If you don't have accepted photo ID, you can apply for a free voter ID document, which is known as a Voter Authority Certificate. For all the information you need about accepted photo ID and how to apply for voter ID go to the RCC website.

Please note that you will not need photo ID to vote by post.

Votes cast in the elections will be counted in the Council Chamber, Catmose, Oakham on Friday 5 May (the day after Polling Day).
