A Rutland couple are raising much-needed funds for a local mental health charity.

Steve and Ali are currently cycling from Rutland to Paris to raise money for Pepper's- A Safe Place and the Leicestershire and Rutland Blood Bikes.

Pepper's is a mental health charity with hubs in Oakham and Melton Mowbray. The team runs friendly and welcoming drop-in sessions and wellbeing activities for any adults who may be struggling with their mental health.

All adults are welcome to join the Pepper's community and take a break, socialise, combat isolation, have fun and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.

Development Manager, Pippa Gorman, said: "Loneliness is something that I'm sure we have all struggled with, especially throughout the pandemic. But many live with it everyday. We want to bring the community together, with a shared, safe and welcoming space for all, to chat, socialise, have fun and be less alone."

Two regular helpers at the Oakham hub, Steve and Ali, are currently cycling from Whissendine to Paris to raise funds for Pepper's and Steve's other passion, the Leicestershire and Rutland Blood Bikes.

Leicestershire and Rutland Blood Bikes transport blood, blood products, pathology samples, patient notes, x-rays, patient scans, surgical equipment, donated breast milk – anything where there is an immediate need to transport an item that will directly benefit patient care.

They have no paid staff and receive no funding from the government or health bodies., and as such rely entirely on the generosity of sponsors, supporters and the public.

Two years ago, the duo raised funds for Pepper's- A Safe Place cycling from Shetland to Dover, and this year they're on their way to Paris.

Pippa added: "Steve volunteers for Leicestershire and Rutland Blood Bikes and and both of them are regular helpers at Pepper's. They're two causes close to their hearts and we're so grateful they are fundraising for us and another worthwhile cause again."

They have seen some incredible scenery on their bike ride already, and expect to finish this week, with the well wishes and support of their following back in Rutland.

At the time of writing, Steve and Ali raised £400 of their £750 target, and would appreciate any support that you can offer.

Donations are still being accepted on their JustGiving page.
