Rutland Foodbank have released the details of their annual 'reverse' advent calendar, asking locals to donate goods to the Foodbank this festive season rather than buying a more conventional chocolate advent calendar.

Rutland Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust Charity and was formed in 2012 to support those in need in and around Rutland. The team cover the whole county and deliver emergency food packs to the doorstep rather than asking clients to collect.

Each year they run a 'reverse' advent calendar in which Rutland residents can donate 24 food items to cover the 24 days of December leading up to Christmas Day. They begin their appeal in November so that the Christmas goody bags can be delivered in time for the festive period.

The Rutland Foodbank team said: "We realise that the season of Advent hasn't officially begun but we are asking for your help during November so your donations reach us with time for us to pack and deliver a Christmas Goody Bag for every household we've helped this year, nearly 270 so far.

"We know that 2022 has been tough for everyone (and it's getting tougher) so we are not expecting anyone to donate all the items but thought you might like to get together with family, friends and neighbours and for each of you choose what you'd like to donate to create your advent calendar.

"Please will get your donations to us by 3rd December as our wonderful volunteers are on standby to pack and distribute. We will use your donations to share a little hope across Rutland."
