The Rutland County Golf club at Great Casterton has new owners and has changed its name.

The 18 hole golf course, set over 180 acres, has been bought by a local business family with extensive business interests in the area.

However, the father and son directors, of the now rebranded Woolfox Golf and Country Club, decline to be identified.

Operations director Sophie Joy told Nub News: "It is a traditional links style course that was built almost 30 years ago.

"There is potential to improve the Golf facility and our aim is to provide the Greenkeeping team with the resources that they need to improve the quality of the course.

"Also, we hope to unlock the potential of the Driving Range. It is one of the largest Driving ranges in the area and has the scope to be a top quality practise and training facility."

Sophie continued: "Golf in the UK is in high demand at the moment, it is a great sport to enjoy whilst being able to maintain social distancing. Young people who would normally be playing team sports such as football & rugby, are trying Golf for the first time and it is great to see.

"We are currently refurbishing the Clubhouse but are able to provide light lunches, snacks and drinks from our vintage Citroen van which has been converted into a catering unit.

"This has been the perfect way to provide refreshments for members and visitors, whilst ensuring we adhere to COVID-19 guidelines."
