Rutland MP Alicia Kearns is calling for people seeking funding to buy community assets, such as a pub or shop, to come forward with their ideas.

The move comes as central government has opened up applications to the Community Ownership Fund, which has £150million available nationally.

The MP posted on Facebook: "This fund will help small businesses, community organisations and residents take over pubs, theatres, shops and sports clubs at risk of closure.

"The deadline for bids is 13 August 2021 for the first round."

Mrs Kearns added: "Please get in touch with my office if you or a community group you know has an idea on how we in Rutland and Melton can make best use of this fund.

"We have a huge opportunity now to safeguard our key cultural, sporting and leisure assets in our communities through this fund."

The MP can also be contacted via [email protected]
