Alicia Kearns MP met the Local Government Minister, Simon Hoare MP, to discuss Government funding and support for flooding locally.

This week, with Councillor Lucy Stephenson and five other Conservative Councillors, Alicia called for a Special Meeting of Rutland County Council to, her office has said, "give our communities the chance to be heard by the Council following recent flood events."

Without this urgent meeting, any discussion on flooding could not take place until March, according to Ms Kearns.

Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton, said: "Having visited some of the worst affected communities in Oakham and Whitwell, it is clear the damage is devastating, and we must do all we can to secure the Government support we so urgently need.

"I will also continue to urge the County Council to respond adequately and learn swiftly from recent flood events, to ensure we are better prepared ahead of any further inclement weather."
