On Friday 6 February, MP for Rutland and Stamford Alicia Kearns paid a special visit to Oakham Shires School to meet students and learn more about the school.

Kearns had a tour of the school, finding out what the specialist secondary school has on offer, before meeting Deputy Headteacher Claire Sillett, and Pastoral Lead Paul Mackay.

This was followed by meeting the school council where Kearns answered questions from students about her role as an MP.

Speaking about the visit, Kearns said: 'It was wonderful to visit Oakham Shires School and see first-hand the outstanding specialist education on offer which is so carefully tailored to every student.

'Meeting the Student Council and hearing directly from young students about their experiences made it clear just how important inclusive and supportive education is in helping every child to thrive and reach their full potential.'

Oakham Shires School has a strong ethos, encouraging students to become: 'Curious, Courageous, Communicators and Confident.'
