The Rutland Neighbourhood Watch Facebook group is set to become 'Rutland Community App UK'.

This comes as the group introduce a new neighbourhood watch app of the same name, with the aim of keeping their community safe.

Facebook group admin, Jane Warren, shared: "The name of our group will shortly be changing to the Rutland Community App UK. Same page, and the same content, but is named for and will be linked to the new and unique App for Rutland supported by RCC, Community Safety, your local and rural police and National Neighbourhood Watch.

"We will still be supporting local charities and local businesses and bringing you content we hope will continue to be of interest."

Group users also hope that this name change will reduce Facebook users from Rutland, America, who are accidentally using the UK page, keeping the site relevant for local users.

Users will not have to do anything when the name is changed - just be aware so that they can find and access the page in future.

Janet Warren, creator of the original Rutland Neighbourhood Watch group, explained: "I launched the original app for Neighbourhood Watch on 30 November 2016, and in no time at all we had 13,500 downloads with no advertising at all.

"It has since been passed to the community safety partnership, with my approval, and I'm redesigning and configuring it specifically so it will remain both community and crime. It has the backing of our local police, RCC, National Neighbourhood Watch and more besides."

The app is set for launch this year, with tech being finalised prior to the release of further information.

Oakham Nub News will be sure to share how you can download the app as soon as it is available.
