Rutland Osprey Project are celebrating 'another bumper season' as the chicks prepare to migrate.

The team at Rutland Water have officially confirmed they have had 24 chicks across 12 nests this season as part of the Rutland Osprey Project.

All of the chicks have been ringed, ready for them to migrate in the coming weeks.

The 2026 season had less chicks that 2025, when a record 31 chicks fledged from 11 nests, including the project's 300th chick.

The number of chicks annually has grown since the first successful breeding year in 2001, seeing 22 chicks from 10 nests in 2023.

In the future, the number of chicks are expected to continue to increase year on year as the local population increases.
