Rutland Police Commanders give update on plans to make towns safer this summer

Rutland Police have announced that they will be upping their efforts across Melton and Rutland to tackle anti-social behaviour, retail crimes and street offences, working towards making town centres safer this summer.
In a statement issued by Inspector Darren Richardson, local people can expect to see more police presence in Rutland this summer. He said: "You'll see more high-visibility patrols in town centres with 2 x dedicated Safer Streets officers.
"We are taking firm action on shop theft, phone snatching, and anti-social behaviour."
Rutland Police will also be targeting known policing hot-spots with both extra covert and overt patrols in town centres.
Behind the scenes, they will also be working closely with local councils, schools, businesses and community groups to ensure information is up to date.
These increased measures come as part of the national Safer Streets Mission, which is a UK Government initiative focussed on reducing serious harm, increasing public confidence in policing and making public places safer.
Rutland Police will also be holding Meet the Inspector events in Melton, Oakham and Uppingham on 24th July. This will give local people the opportunity to speak directly with local policing leaders and ask them questions, share concerns and hear about what they are doing to keep communities safer. Times and locations for the Meet the Inspector events will be confirmed nearer the time.
