Rutland Sailing Club (RSC) is getting ready to welcome the Javelin Sailboat European Championships.

The winds of anticipation are picking up as the prestigious European Championship is set to grace the waters of Rutland Sailing Club next week.

From 24 to 28 July 2023, the thrilling event will bring an action-packed spectacle to Rutland Water, bringing together seasoned sailors and enthusiastic novices for an unforgettable championship in the classic two-person dinghy - the Javelin sailboat.

Known for its timeless design and perfect harmony between skill and simplicity, the Javelin sailboat is an ideal choice for both novice and experienced sailors, making it a versatile and captivating choice for this year's European Championship.

Competitors from esteemed sailing communities in the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom have registered for the championship, adding a diverse and international flair to the event.

The Javelin European Championship at RSC is expected to be a celebration of skill, camaraderie, and the sheer love of sailing.

This comes after RSC, last weekend, hosted a family open day with Olympic Silver Medalist, David Wilkins.

Guests to the event hit the water in committee boats and other vessels, and enjoyed activities at the club despite the rain.

Richard Smith, spokesperson for the Javelin European Championship 2023, said: "With the European Championship just around the corner, we are thrilled to welcome sailors from different countries, united by their passion for the sport.

"The Javelin sailboat has always been known for its simplicity and performance, making it accessible to a wide range of sailors. We are excited to see the competition unfold and witness the camaraderie among the participants."

As part of the Javelin Association's longstanding commitment to promoting inclusivity, this year's championship also welcomes mixed crews to participate, further enhancing the diversity and excitement of the event.

Spectators and sailing enthusiasts can expect to witness thrilling races, impressive manoeuvers, and a display of exceptional sailing skills as the competitors take to the waters of Rutland Sailing Club, known for its stunning backdrop and excellent sailing conditions.
