A squad of sixteen talented young sailors have been selected as the chosen representatives of Great Britain for the Youth Sailing World Championships.
A sailor from Rutland is among a group of young sailors who will be competing at the upcoming World Championships.
The team is set to showcase their skills at the upcoming 2023 Youth Sailing World Championships in Búzios, Brazil, on the 8-16 December 2023, including Carys Attwell from Rutland Sailing Club, located on Rutland Water's south shore.
The process to select one representative per class was meticulous, hinging on evaluations that factored in their international event achievements and their future pathway potential.
Carys Attwell, from Rutland Sailing Club, was selected for the ILCA 6 female class, having clinched consecutive first places at the Youth Nationals event earlier this year she comments "I am really excited to be selected and sail at this amazing venue. I am looking forward to training hard to put in a strong performance in December."
RYA Youth Racing Manager, Oli Woodcock shared his excitement to the newly selected team "Congratulations to the team for their incredible commitment and hard work so far. Now the real work begins! The coaching team is excited to work together to push on and get the best possible performance from the team in Brazil.
Alongside her RYA training at Weymouth, Carys has been training at Rutland Sailing Club for some time, and has been nurtured in a setting where all sailors are welcome to join, at any level.
She is currently hoping to find a further sponsor to support her transition out of youth sailing to senior events and the training and travelling this involves.
