Every year, the Lions Club of Rutland donate a prize to a student at each of the county's senior schools to celebrate a student that has excelled in serving their local community.

Each winning student will receive a certificate and monetary award for themselves, as a £200 donation to their chosen charity.

Angus Lees, the winning student at Harrington School, chose 1st Ketton Scout Group.

Angus first joined scouting at the age of six.

Harrington School took to social media to congratulate Angus, saying: 'Angus has volunteered with Ketton Scouts for two years as a Young Leader, giving back to the group he joined at age six.

'His dedication to mentoring and supporting young people is truly inspiring.'

Tim Wade, Group Leader of the scout group has known Angus since he was small.

'He's been through Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and is now a Young Leader,' said Tim. 'He has the pick of a lot of groups he's associated with [for the prize donation], such as at school or football, so it's magnificent that he chose us for this donation.

'It's his way of saying thank you for the training and support we've given him.

'There are so many things we can do with this money. For example, we lease a field and have several plans for the youngsters, including setting up a zip wire. Also, four of the scout leaders are going to be trained in axe throwing so that they can safety teach the group. Angus will love it.'

President of Rutland Lions Allan Grey presented the cheque at a meeting in January.
