Villagers are seeking approval to give their 100 year-old war memorial a good clean.

Braunston Parish Council has applied to Rutland Council for planning approval to have the work undertaken at its memorial in Braunston Church Yard on Cedar Street, Braunston.

The application says the parish council would use specialist contractors to carry out a non-checmical clean of the listed moument.

The Grade 2-listed monument, described as the 'focal point' of the village, is made of limestone, it sits on a pedestal and is 3.8m high.

A report said cleaning would have no deterimental effect on the memorial and it would revert to its original condition.

Rutland Council has yet to determine the application.
