A Stamford writer has produced a 68-page walking guide featuring 21 of his favourite walks in the Stamford and Rutland area.
Will Hetherington, who has written a monthly walking feature for Active magazine for the last eight years, hopes his guide will uncover hidden gems in the region.
The 43-year-old has explored exotic routes in far-flung places like Georgia, Spain and Slovenia, but also loves to tread the paths closer to home.
In May 2019 he and a group of like-minded fellow adventurers walked the 88-mile Jurassic Way from Banbury to Stamford in a four-day expedition.
And earlier this year he walked the 65-mile Rutland Round.
But don't worry, Will says his guide contains a lot less daunting walks than that, and they are designed to show the very best of this beautiful corner of England.
From the imposing Harringworth viaduct in the west to the tranquil charms of Shillingthorpe Park in the east, Will says the region is bursting with great places to explore and this guide is designed to unlock some hidden gems.
The book is sponsored by Rutland-based healthcare company Cell Regeneration and is split into three categories; up to one hour, between one and two hours, and two hours plus.
Will commented: "I was born and bred in Stamford and still live in this marvellous town. I love the area just as much today as I always have.
"Over the years I have walked most of the footpaths in Rutland and the Stamford area and I revisit my favourites regularly. Not least because I have two labradors who, regardless of weather conditions, always want a walk.
"In this new guide I have tried to give a balanced spread of walks from all around the local area. But please don't blame me if it's a bit muddy out there – after all this is England!"
This compact new guide is available for £7.95 (plus p&p) from the end of October from the Active website or from local stockists including Walkers.
