Two schemes to build a total of up to 183 homes on the edge of Uppingham are being recommended for approval.

The outline applications for developments off Leicester Road have been submitted to Rutland County Council by Charles Richardson on behalf of Robinsons.

One to the north is earmarked for up to 163 properties and the other to the south for 20 properties.

The county council's planning committee is set to make a decision on the applications at a meeting on Tuesday (24 Sept).

A council document to the committee says of the larger development: "The scheme is to provide the second major phase of housing allocated in the Uppingham Neighbourhood Plan (NP).

"Overall the site is suitable for development and it is unlikely that an appeal against refusal for housing on a site that is in such a sustainable location, over half of which is allocated for development now, would be upheld.

"The site is allocated for development in the NP. Whilst some is allocated for 'future development', there is no overriding reason to prevent the whole being developed now in a comprehensive fashion."

It makes the same concluding statement in relation to both applications which planning officers consider are both 'acceptable': "All matters except access are reserved for later approval so the detail will be considered later.

"Other matters that have arisen as part of this application can be dealt with through conditions or reserved matters."
