Seven-month baby killed in collision on A1 near Rutland
Lincolnshire Police report collision on A1 has tragically claimed the life of a seven-month-old baby boy.
The collision, which took place around 10.50pm last night (Thursday 2nd January), was a yellow Honda leaving the road, colliding with a tree and coming to rest on the carriageway.
According to Lincolnshire Police: "A seven-month-old baby in the vehicle sustained serious injuries in the collision and was treated at the scene and taken to hospital, but he sadly died just after 5am this morning."
The police also reported that there were three other people in the car. One woman suffered serious injuries while the other two were not seriously injured.
The A1 has been closed since 11pm last night, and the southbound carriageway currently remains closed while the police continue to carry out their investigation.
Alicia Kearns, MP for Rutland and Stamford, said the incident was "heart-breaking" and that her "heart goes out to the family and loved ones at this impossible time".
The force is currently keeping an open mind about the potential cause of the incident but have said it could be linked to icy conditions.
The police are currently appealing to anyone who may have been driving in that area over the last few days to get in touch with information or dashcam footage showing the conditions.
They are also keen to see any footage of the collision or speak to anyone that saw the incident that has not already spoken to the police.
