St John's Church, Ryhall, will host an open day this weekend to share what goes on in and around the beautiful, Grade I listed church.

At the heart of the village, the medieval church was built in the early 13th century. It is packed with history and features spending the centuries, including a priest's chamber, 700-year-old font and sedalia and three stained glass windows.

The Church was traditionally associated with the legend of St Tibba and she is said to have lived here in the 7th Century. It is said that she used to bathe in the spring on Tibba's hill, this being on the hill from Tolethorpe to Belinsford Bridge.

St. John's started a major Restoration and Renewal Project in 2020 just as the first lockdown started. Since then, the old, leaky roof has been replaced, the drainpipes and gutters restored, the paths have been re-laid and the churchyard transformed into a beautiful, restful site for the whole village to enjoy.

Restoration of the church interior has started with surveys of the 250 year old clock completed, and architect's surveys and feasibility reports on the main building due for completion this spring, which will guide future restoration work.

And this weekend, local people will have the chance to find out more and get hands on at the local church.
