Rutland residents can now bring the family to play a variety of sports and games for free by joining Uppingham's ParkPlay sessions every Saturday morning.

ParkPlay, the new Sport England-backed charity, brings people from local communities together every Saturday morning, in parks and green spaces across the country. The events are run by local Playleaders and tailored week-by-week according to what games and activities the group enjoys.

From tag games to frisbee and rounders, ParkPlay sessions are open to children, parents and grandparents and is completely free to anyone who would like to join on a Saturday morning from 9.30am at Uppingham CofE Primary School. None of the games require experience and no kit is required.

Rutland County Council's Portfolio Holder for Communities, Environment and Climate Change, Cllr Marc Oxley, said: "Keeping active at any age is very important and what better way to spend time with the family than to get out in the great outdoors to play some traditional park games!

"I'm especially pleased that in the current climate we are able to support a scheme that is completely free of charge. I hope that families across Rutland will take advantage of these sessions and hopefully in time we can expand the sessions to more parks and green spaces throughout the county."

Rick Jenner, CEO of ParkPlay, added: "It's never been more important to lead an active lifestyle and more and more people understand the wide benefits it can bring. But huge swathes of the country aren't interested in traditional clubs and teams and are turned off by organised sports. We're for anyone and everyone who enjoys getting some rosy in their cheeks by running around with friends and family, but doesn't want to join a team or buy hundreds of pounds worth of kit."
