Is the former home of Wilko set to become a B&M?

Since the closure of Wilko on Oakham's Westgate last year, speculation about what the store will become has been rife.

Many suggested a new swimming pool following the closure of the pool at Catmose Sports Centre during the Covid pandemic. Others have proposed an affordable indoor market for the town.

Wilko officially closed in Oakham in late September 2023, residents converging outside the shop to applaud the employees as they finished their final shift.

Now it seems that the building may become a B&M.

Independent bar and nightclub across the road from the venue, Bills Bar, shared on Facebook: "Just letting you all know we have today received official communications from B&M head office that they will be moving in as our new neighbours at the old Wilko."

The post added: "I must say this is a huge positive step in actually bringing some footfall back into the town centre."

It has been met with positive feedback from residents, one commenting: "At last, love B&M and really miss Wilko."

B&M have been contacted for comment, so be sure to keep an eye on Oakham Nub News for the latest.
