After weeks of extremely dry weather, even small amounts of rainfall can cause the 'Florida ice effect', making roads incredibly slippery.

This effect occurs during the early stages of a rain shower when the oils, dust, sludge and grime from weeks of dry weather get wet and brought to the surface by the rain. This creates a sheen on the roads, which has a similar effect as driving on ice. This can make it much easier to suddenly lose control of your vehicle and spin out.
