Seven schools in Rutland and Melton will receive a share of £483 million to upgrade and expand their buildings and sites the Secretary of State for Education, the Rt. Hon. Gavin Williamson MP, announced today.

The Condition Improvement Fund (HIF) grant is a competitive bidding process, designed to keep school buildings in good working order, as well as to expand facilities at Ofsted-rated Good and Outstanding schools.

Rutland County Council has today (Wednesday 23 June) received a formal instruction to withdraw, with immediate effect, plans for 150 camping pitches at Rutland Showground.

The planning application withdrawal follows mounting opposition to the proposals following public disturbances stemming from the current festival at the showground in Barleythorpe, as previously reported by Nub News.

Lloyds Bank has announced it is to close its Oakham branch in the autumn.

The move was announced today as part of a programme of 44 bank closures announced today by the Lloyds Banking Group. They comprise of 29 Lloyds Banks and 15 Halifax branches.
