A number of new road safety campaigns and initiatives will be launched in Rutland this autumn to highlight the dangers of speeding and promote consideration for all road users.

The work is being led by Rutland County Council, Leicestershire Police, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, and the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership (LLRRSP). Local residents will also be directly involved.

A fresh bid to review a controversial planning decision that led to a county council by-election, which the ruling Conservatives lost to the Liberal Democrats, has come to nothing.

In July, Rutland County Council's Planning Committee voted to grant planning permission for a development of 62 homes on land off Braunston Road- a decision greeted with 'disgust' by campaigners.
